What is a CIBIL Score?

Understand what a CIBIL score is, why it matters, and how it impacts your financial life in India.

A CIBIL score is a 3-digit number ranging from 300 to 900 that represents your creditworthiness.

It is generated by TransUnion CIBIL — India's oldest and most trusted credit bureau.

Think of it like a report card for your financial behaviour. The higher the number, the more trustworthy

you appear to banks and lenders.

Why Does It Matter?

Banks and lenders check your CIBIL score before approving any loan or credit card. A score of 750 or

above is generally considered good and helps you:

  • Get loans approved faster
  • Qualify for lower interest rates
  • Get higher credit limits
  • Receive better financial offers
  • Who Calculates It?

TransUnion CIBIL collects data from banks and financial institutions across India about how people

use credit — payments, defaults, outstanding balances, and more. They use this data to calculate

    your score.

    How to Check Your Score

You can check your CIBIL score for free once a year on the official TransUnion CIBIL website.

Multiple checks (hard inquiries) can slightly affect your score, but soft checks do not.
